Schools Out for the Summer

At least for Isaac. Every year around this time I tend to get a little jealous knowing that he’ll be off work all summer. Maybe I picked the wrong career path because besides being off all summer, he also gets the best gifts!

But then again, I can’t be too jealous though because this year he was given a gift for both of us from his students (for our engagement): a handmade cookbook with some of their favorite recipes.

It’s adorable and packed with some tasty looking meals and snacks. Many of the recipes are handwritten or decorated with lovely drawings and the last page even has a “Recipe for a Good Marriage” written by a few of the students. Personally, I’m a big fan of the 1 cup of huggy, huggy kisses, 3 lbs. softness and spices and lots of jokes. <– All very necessary. 🙂

And often times I get to enjoy the gifts as well. For instance, this year he was given a beautiful bowl that one of his parents made.

Grace, if you’re reading this, I would like you to know that we love it and it’s already being put to good use. 🙂

Summertime also means that we get to go to the farmers market every Saturday morning and this weekend was no exception.

Here is what we ended up purchasing this week: lots of greens (two bunches of kale and some swiss chard), tomato and basil plants, squash, zucchini and goat cheese.

Isaac and I are in love with the goat cheese from Goats R Us.

I really liked the pineapple walnut I bought a few weeks ago but this week they had a new Greek flavor that tasted like a thicker version of tzatziki. I had to get it! We also got the hot pepper, per Isaac’s request.

Of course we couldn’t leave Olive out so I got her two treats from Clementine’s Mobile Munchies as we were leaving the market.

How cute are they?

I made Olive wait until we got home to try them because I wanted to get a good picture.

She waited patiently and even did a few tricks before she gobbled them up!

Overall, it was a fun trip to the farmers market to start off a lovely weekend. Other weekend highlights included:

I’m hoping to share more details on all of the above soon, but for now I’m off to work. In the meantime, check out my guest post with tips for a navigating your local farmers market on the VA is for Bloggers blog today. Happy Monday!
