Five Things Thursday

Sometimes I get so caught up with sharing delicious recipes I skip the life stuff so I’m popping in today say hey, give y’all a little life update + a few fun links.

NASM Book

1. Fun News: I’m becoming a NASM personal trainer! Getting my certification has been on my bucket list for at least four or five years so when I saw that a local gym (ACAC Short Pump) was offering an 8 week class, I jumped at the chance. I had already heard good things about NASM from Julie and Courtney and I liked the fact that I would have to go to a class rather than just studying on my own.

So far I’m 3 weeks in and loving it. I have until March to take the exam and I’m still not 100% sure what I plan to do with the certification, but if nothing else the knowledge will be good to have for my health coaching. I’ll be sure to do more updates with what I’m learning and, of course, once I’m certified I’ll be sharing more workouts on here as well! I’m excited.

2. Fall is here (well technically it’s here this weekend, but still it’s pretty much here). I’ve found that it’s been chilly enough to make the switch from iced coffee to hot coffee, which obviously is a sign that fall is here. 😉 Seriously though, there’s something so refreshing about the fall season. The air seems more refreshing than it does during the hot humid days of summer and I see it as a time to refocus, rebalance and let go of any heavy weights on my shoulders. This goes for my hips too considering I always tend to gain a little weight during the summer months because of all the cook outs, vacations and ice cream. 😉 I think Summer is my favorite season (mainly because I hate being cold), but fall is definitely a close second. I just hope it lasts for a while and doesn’t get super cold on us anytime soon.

And don’t worry I have plenty of fall recipes to share in the next few weeks… pumpkin season is here!!

3. New product I’m loving: Hilary’s Eat Well Veggie Burgers. They’re free almost every allergen (gluten-free, dairy-free, corn-free, egg-free, soy-free, yeast-free, and nut-free) and taste awesome. I also love that you can cook with in the toaster! I’ve tried all three of the burgers and the Hemp & Greens is definitely my favorite.

4. Not so fun news: Isaac and I just found this week that we have to move from our current house. We love our house and this was sprung upon us so we’re a little bummed by trying to make the most of it. Hopefully we can find a new house with features we’re currently missing — like a backyard with a little shed to store all of Isaac’s tools and a kitchen with more natural lighting for food pictures. It would be lovely not to have to take all my food outside this winter for photo shoots.

5. Start your day with a laugh by watching this Bud Light commercial. It’s perfect for all of us who didn’t know how to pronounce quinoa when we first started using it. For the record, quinoa does not taste like a dirty ol’ tree branch. My Sweet Potato Quinoa Cakes or Fall Harvest Spinach Salad definitely prove that wrong.

What’s new and good in your life?
