OMG! Cotton Candy Grapes

Happy Friday! I wanted to pop in and quickly share something that Isaac and I have been going crazy over this week — Cotton Candy Grapes!

Cotton Candy Grapes

They look just like regular ol’ green grapes, but they taste just like pink, hand-spun cotton candy you’d get from the circus. I haven’t had cotton candy in ages, but I definitely remember what it tastes like and these grapes are spot-on.

I sampled one a Fresh Market the other day and was shocked by how much they really taste like cotton candy. I was also a little skeptical — how in the heck did they make grapes taste like that?!? I didn’t buy any that day but I told Isaac about them and as soon as we found them at Whole Foods he loaded up our cart. <— Anyone who knows Isaac knows that he loooooves buying stuff like this and making people try it!

After buying them I did a little research and found out that a company called Grapery, a California-based grape grower, created the hybrid variety over eight years by breading wild grape species. The grapes are not artificially sweetened or genetically engineered. They are a tad sweeter than regular table grapes so they have a bit more sugar — but far less sugar than something like cotton candy or even raisins.

I don’t think we’ll be buying cotton candy grapes weekly but they’re awesome as a natural sweet treat and certainly fun to have friends sample. I bet kids would go crazy for them! The Grapery also has a variety of grapes called Witch Fingers — scary good and perfect for Halloween! :)

Have you tried cotton candy grapes or other crazy-flavored fruit or fruit hybrids before? Isaac and I have tried Grapples (apples that taste like grapes) and Pluots (a cross between a plum and an apricot).  I’m  just waiting for a pumpkin spice flavored fruit to be created! Pumpkin spice bananas…

PS — If you’re local to Richmond and want to try the cotton candy grapes, we found them at Fresh Market and Whole Foods.
